Is Beyonce's Pregnancy Throwing Shade at Single Mothers?

By now most of us have been inundated with Bey & Jay's baby news so the excitement has worn off but apparantly all the conversation surrounding her pregnancy has generated a bit of controversy.  Since the couple married three years ago speculation and stories have been stirred up of a pregnancy in the Carter family.  Now that the pregnancy has been confirmed everyone is offering up well wishes to the couple and commending Bey for doing it the "right way".  Meaning she dated, married and THEN became pregnant.  Even rapper J. cole said the couple were representing black people "correctly".

Are we over-glorifying Beyonce for following a certain order meanwhile condemning single mothers of whom we know not their circumstances?  Has Beyonce done something unheard of by marrying before becoming pregnant?  I mean let's face it women do this everyday, she is not the exception. I understand that it may not seem common place with the Basketball (non)Wives or the ladies of Love & Hip Hop plastered across our TV screens weekly but it happens people.

However, I don't think the simple statement of her doing it the "right way" is an attack on single mothers either.  Everyone has varying circumstances so to pass judgment on a single mom is a bit close-minded.

What do you think of this conversation surrounding Bey's pregnancy?

Lil Wayne shows us "How To Love"

Lil Wayne's "How To Love" video premiered Tuesday night and some of you may have seen it already but I wanted to share my thoughts on it.  (If you haven't seen it click this link)  Let me start by saying before watching the video I gave kudos to Weezy for this song as it stood apart from his typical raps about money, sex and the infamous "yella bones".   This is by far the best video he has done to date, in my opinion.  The song/video combo shows a side of Dwayne Carter that we rarely see and I like it!
Seriously though, watching this video made me think of Rihanna's "Man Down".  Both videos are depicting real life situations that so many people face and can relate to. “How to Love” is a thought provoking video and incites genuine emotion (I started tearing up).   It's such a real story for a lot of folks and I believe that seeing the story play out helps us see what affect our actions have on   ourselves and our children.  Within a 5-minute video Lil Wayne lets us see the trauma of an abused woman, understand the damage of an abused child and recognize the pain from lack of love.  So I must give credit where credit is due.  Well done Weezy, well done!
I’ll leave you with my favorite line- “I just want you to know, that you deserve the best you’re beautiful.  And I want you to know, you’re far from the usual!

Until next time...

Win in Life-A Positive Movement

When you're surrounded by negativity on a daily basis it's refreshing to interact with people who always have a positive outlook on life.  I am fortunate to know such an individual, Wil.  Regardless of when we speak or what situation he encounters he's always doing FANTASTIC!  Even if understandably he could be feeling down or depressed based on his circumstance he always aims for positivity.

He has decided to share that positivity with the world by launching his line of apparel and accessories called Win In Life with the tag line Do not let the circumstances of life defeat you.  The line consists of t-shirts, hats and watches in an array of colors.

You can take a look at his line here.  I can definitely support someone whose bringing the positivity we so desperately need these days.  Will you?

Oh, did you guys notice Win in Life developed from his name Wil, how cool!!

MLK standing tall!

The Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial has been unveiled.   The memorial opened yesterday in Washington, DC at 11A.  The statue is the largest in the National Mall standing approximately 30 feet tall.

The inspiration  for the "Stone of Hope" of which Dr. King's is scuplted from is a phrase from his "I have a Dream" speech, "Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope."

Unfortunately, the statue has already created some controversy.   Some people contend that Dr. King appears confrontational and his demeanor is grim.  Additionally, some individuals are offended that the sculptor is a chinese artist.

What do you think?  Does it matter who created the sculpture?  Do you think the artists depiction of Dr. King is an accurate one?

Jilly from Philly Summer Block Party!

I have anticipated the Jill Scott Block Party concert for almost two months and the day finally came.  Friday, August 19th Jilly from Philly graced Atlanta with her presence.  She brought along Mint Condition, the soulful Anthony Hamilton, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the entertainer, Doug E. Fresh!

Unfortunately, I was a bit late so I missed all of Mint Condition.  I was looking forward to hearing "Pretty Brown Eyes"...that was my favorite song back in the day.  However, the rest of the show was great.  Anthony Hamilton's performance was great, he sang his hits and also took us to "Chuch" (church for those that don't know).   Following his performance Jazzy Jeff spun the hip-hop hits of the 80's and 90's while Doug E. Fresh showed us the original "Dougie" dance.  It was loads of fun....everyone was on their feet dancing!

The anticipation for Jill to appear on stage was palpable....we were ready for her..screaming out her name.   When she walked out on stage, she had a sexy stroll, she was confident and beautiful....and that infectious smile of hers drew you in.  I loved it!  Her performance did not disappoint.  She sang a little something from each album.  But the most impressive was when she started singing opera as she closed the concert out.  I had no clue of her diversity nor did I realize her voice had such range.  Brilliant performance!

When she comes to your city check her out...if the tickets aren't sold out!

Until next time....

Socialite Dreams Blog Make-up Challenge

I mentioned in a previous post about my make-up obsession so it's probably no surprise that I follow many beauty blogs. One in particular is Socialite Dreams blog by Vonnie.  For the past couple of months she has had a FOTD (face of the day) challenge where she posts photos of celebrities.  The challenge is to recreate the make-up look.  It's a really fun and cool idea!  It has allowed me to play around with bold and colorful looks that I love but am unable to wear to work so I've thoroughly enjoyed it .  Since I'm and aspiring MUA, it's also allowed me to hone my make-up application skills.  Some of the celebrities featured were Solange, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez and Amber Rose just to name a few.

I chose to recreate looks by Rihanna, Amber Rose and Kim Kardashian.  You can see the results below.

So how did I do??
