Hi friends,
I'm sorry for the mini hiatus its just been a bit hectic, but I'm back.....again.

I'm going to revisit my last post because I told you all that I would highlight the vendors that I liked and promote their products/stores.

So I'll get right into it.  First, is Superbfootwear, they specialize in footwear for women sizes 10 and larger but they also offer foot care products such as the Gilden Tree Shea Butter Balm.  If you've used pure shea butter before you'll love this product as it not only heals dry skin but the smell is great!  I purchased a small 1 oz. container but it's already almost gone because I use it every evening on my feet and during the day on my hands (I hate dry hands).  I'll be heading to the website to purchase the 4 oz size very soon.

My second stop was to the booth for Gray| Ellis.  The flair of the gorgeous woman standing in front of the booth is what made me stop.  Her whole look was different, UniQUE...ya'll know that's what I'm all about.  Their pieces were very distinctive and different from most of the other boutiques.  However, I was more drawn to the girls of Gray| Ellis after I got home and got to their website.  I was inspired by Ang & Cari's story of how they started their dream business, especially since I'm attempting to do the same.  The clothes and jewelry are totally my style also.  Sorry no pictures. :(

And last and definitely not least I was utterly impressed by a young lady with a lovely personality and a great entrepreneurial spirit.  Ms Maya!

Let me tell you this young lady was so inspiring.  At 10 years old she has her own business, Maya's Ideas.  She is extremely creative specializing in handmade accessories such as hats, scarves, jewelry, headbands and more. HANDMADE!  I purchased the cutest brooch that I've shown off to everyone I know, not only because it's so stylish but I'm so excited to tell the story of how I met Ms. Maya.  I want everyone I know to be excited as I was and support her!

BTW I have my eye on this Symbol of Beauty Eternity Scarf from Mayas Ideas. Check it out!

Symbol of Beauty Eternity

It was evident that Maya has a very strong support system in her family that allows her to freedom to express her creativity and realize her dreams!  Keep it up Maya!  I'm proud of you little sista!

Til next time....

V-103 hosts the 2010 Fall Trunk Show

I've been MIA for a few days...sorry!  I've got finals this week so it's been pretty hectic but I'm back!  So I want to talk about my weekend because it was pretty busy but I had a wonderful time.  Let me fill you in on the weekends happenings.

A local radio station hosted a trunk show which showcased local boutiques and artists in the metro atlanta area. The event was held at the Atlanta Marriott Buckhead hotel and true to form women and men came out to shop!

There seemed to me more boutiques showcasing jewelry than anything else but clothing, shoes, bags  and body care were represented as well.  I enjoyed the event but here is what I observed; everything looked the same.  I went from booth to booth and the clothes were very similar in nature, as was the jewelry and shoes.  I don't know about you but I like being Uni-QUE so I wasn't terribly impressed with the selections.

However with that said there were a handful of shops that I really liked. I'm going to do a separate post for them so they get the credit they deserve.  Stay tuned.......

Did anyone else attend this event?  If so, I'd love to hear what you thought about it.

Until next time...

To Pledge or Not to Pledge

I have recently embarked on a quest for personal and professional development.  In doing so I am stepping outside of my comfort level and participating in activities that I wouldn't have in the past like business ventures, community activities, business organizations, blogs and becoming affiliated with a Greek organization.

Sigma Gamma Rho Motivational Magnet - "I asked for Strength, Wisdom and Courage"Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Motivational Magnet - "My Letters don't Define Me..They Merely Enhance Who I Am"Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Motivational Magnet - "The Real Work begins after Crossing The Burning Sands"Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Motivational Magnet - "5 Women Paved the Way. What Road are you On?"

I was not brought up in a Greek home and I only have a couple of friends and family that are part of Greek organizations, Uncle Mike-Alpha Phi Alpa & Aunt Trina-Delta Sigma Theta, so I wasn't familiar with their history, organizational philosophies and missions.  However in my pursuit of development I've seriously considered becoming a part of one of these organizations.

The first stage of this process is determining which organization is the best fit for me.  Does this organization's tenet align with my personal belief system?  Do their principles resonate with my character? Will membership to this organization aid in molding me into the person I'm striving to be?  What value do I attain by being a part of the organization?

So I've begun to do my research into the various sororities, learning about their history, exploring their missions and community initiatives.  My initial venture, a Zeta Phi Beta informational.  It was an interesting experience and I'd like to share what I learned but they stressed discretion when it comes to broadcasting information about their organization.  However, I will say aside from the meeting starting late the ladies of Delta Xi Chapter were courteous, professional, informative, very enthusiastic and funny.  Questions were addressed about membership and one Zeta member gave this analogy: "Sorority membership is a lifetime commitment so you will have to date us (Zeta Phi Beta) and if we like you we'll marry, because you don't marry someone after one encounter."  The analogy is fitting except it's a two way street, I also need to determine if your organization is the right fit for me.  So I'm on a mission.

What do you think?  Are you a member of a Greek organization?  What prompted you to consider membership?  What influenced your choice?  I'm anxious to hear your thoughts on this so please chime in!

Til next time...

Travel Wednesdays

I woke up this morning put on my two piece bikini and walked out to this stunning view of the Mayan Riviera. This is going to be a glorious day!  The sun is shining, there's a breeze from the ocean and I'm totally relaxed.  I plan to have a seat under that tiki hut and order a mimosa or two :) and mingle with the other guests for a while.  After that I'll head to one of those cabanas sitting right along the beach and marvel at the beauty of aqua blue waters, white sand and the smell of salt water.

I badly wanted to lay out on the beach but my skin and the sun are enemies.  But I  wanted that sun-kissed glow so I told her, my skin, "only 20 minutes, I promise."  She was reluctant, reminding me of the many times the sun had burnt her but she finally conceded, "20 minutes and not a second more!".  I'm happy, I love the feel of sand, an excellent exfoliator by the way.  But anywho,  I kept my word and laid out for 20 minutes and now I'm off to find a local to hip me to the best places to shop and eat.

I had been told about this cool cafe, Ah Cacao Chocolate Cafe, that specializes in chocolate.  They serve coffee, desserts and ice cream. I'm a lover of sweets so it was the perfect spot to satisfy my afternoon sweets fix.  But not only that, I got to satisfy my shopping addiction as well since they also have a selection of chocolate face creams, candles and lotions.  OMG, chocolate lotion.....DIVINE!  This day is turning out to be better than I expected.

Suddenly, I hear my name being called and I'm thinking who could possibly know me....I'm in Mexico!  So I just ignore it figuring they must be talking to someone else but they call my name about 3 more times their voice getting louder each time.  So I finally turn to look and it's my boss with a puzzled look on his face.  He say's "I've been standing here for about 2 minutes calling your name, did you print the report I asked you for?"

I turn back to see the gorgeous Mayan Riviera screensaver on my computer. Dang! I've got to stop daydreaming at work!

Where did you go today?

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Hi friends,

I wanted to share some wonderful things that are happening this month.  If you haven't noticed a lot of companies are going "PINK"!  This is to celebrate National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.   I have  had breast cancer touch my life  by way of my mother who was diagnosed in 2009.  However, I am happy to say that she is a survivor and is doing wonderful.  I've wanted to do my part to help out in the way of Breast Cancer awareness for a few years even prior to my mom's diagnosis but I had been a bit hesitant.
But this year I've made the decision to participate in some way.  The American Cancer Society is sponsoring Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Atlanta, GA on Saturday, October 23rd and I'm putting together a team of friends and family to walk and donate to the cause.

Also, Yoplait Yogurt has the "Save Lids, Save Lives" Campaign.  Their yogurt products, no matter your favorite...mine is Whips!, have the pretty pink lid and all you do is "save 'em, rinse 'em, and mail 'em in by December 31, 2010.  Yoplait will donate 10 cents per lid up to 1.6 million to Susan G. Komen for the cure.  It may seem like a small contribution but it adds up.  In fact this campaign has resulted in a $25MM contribution over the past 12 years! If you love yogurt it's a win win! See the link below for the campaign.

There are other ways to contribute as well.  Many places you shop are donating a certain percentage of your purchase to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  Below are just a few companies that are going "PINK".  :)
